GIST is a research-oriented university that focuses on the essential fields of applied science and engineering. The Institute takes a leading role in performing research and development in cooperation with industry sectors and is the first university in Korea to adopt an innovative system providing a comprehensive, foundational science curriculum. This serves as a stepping stone for research into a wide variety of science and engineering fields. Building program includes education/research center, experimental research classrooms, student union, dormitories, and a new central plant. The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) has been ranked seventh in terms of citations per faculty member, according to England’s global university evaluation institute QS.
