Cedars-Sinai Medical

Center

Cedar-Sinai is a 1.6 million SF hospital that is in need of major structural upgrades if it is to meet strigent new code requirements for the year 2030. With that in mind, the design team was tasked with creating an expanded vision of what a hospital of the future could mean for the client. A goal of the team was to re-establish the vital center, creating a place to be and an entry point for the building that is in stature with Cedars-Sinai's reputation as a world leader in healthcare. This was achieved by replacing an existing road that bisects the cuent facility to create a garden atrium which becomes the new front door for the hospital. Entry to the pavilion orients patrons to the campus and creates a needed "social space" that unites constituents. The pavilion is green and congruous from street to plaza with escalators and stairs that lead to the heart of the hospital where information, donor walls, and much of the hospital's history is located. The building is re-clad with an intelligent and sustainable curtain wall system allowing more light into patient rooms. Two new VIP floors envisioned at the top of the existing structure are for the world's elite. Cedars-Sinai is known as The Celebrity Hospital, and as such, you'll often find them in the south tower, in the Plaza Cafe on the plaza level, or the cafeteria on the street level. This is the famous hospital where Britney Spears was admitted to the mental ward, where Frank Sinatra died, and where Kate Hudson was born.
