The Shenyang City District Sports Center is located in the heart of the city. It consists of an 18,000 seat open stadium, 5,000 seat arena and cultural center featuring a 3,000 seat theater. The stadium program wraps the main soccer field creating an intimate setting within an interactive sports complex. Program elements within have a direct link to the soccer field. Large expanses of glass are employed to enhance transparency between the inner workings of the facility and the local community. The arena component is bathed in natural light from the north. Abstract images of dragons were employed as design elements that influenced the dramatic roof structure. The building is intended to be a civic landmark for the city of Shenyang.
